Welcome to Portland School and Specialist College

Portland School is warm, welcoming and inviting for pupils, families and staff. We specialise with working with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Pupils who come to Portland School, are lively, bubbly and seeking positive interactions with staff. The progress they make both academically, but also with their social and emotional skills, is a rewarding experience for any staff member supporting them. As part of the Portland team, you will receive training in CPI, Emotion Coaching, Restorative Practice, Attachment and Trauma Informed practice and much more. You have the opportunity to build positive relationships, with our pupils and their families, as well as with our wider school team. Once per half term, we hold a staff team building session, which includes activities such as quiz's and scavenger hunts. Due to the more active nature of our curriculum and work, we have a slightly less formal dress code, allowing some staff to come to work feeling more comfortable. In order to support our staff in being able to capture pupil learning in a range of ways, we provide each staff member with an iPad. We work across two sites, giving our staff the opportunity to extend their skills and experiences from Key Stage 1, all the way through to Key Stage 4. Portland School, is on an exciting journey of improvement, and each staff member who joins us, brings something new to our team to help us on the next step.

SEND

Our Specialist settings cater for children and young people with a wide range of Specialist Educational Needs, including profound medical needs, sensory needs and emotional and mental health needs.

All the pupils within our Specialist settings have an individualised education and are educated in small classes and groups with enhanced support to ensure that all of their needs are met. There is nothing more rewarding than being part of a team that supports a child or young person with Specialist Educational Needs to reach their goals.

Teaching, support and operations rolls all provide a wonderful opportunity to work within an establishment that has a ‘family’ feel that puts the children, young people and their families at the heart of what they do. You truly will make a difference to the life of a young person and their family.
